Former President Donald Trump, who endorsed Youngkin's campaign, had already congratulated the newly elected governor for taking the lead in the race and thanked his own "base," that he deemed responsible for GOP victory in the state.
Before running for governor, Youngkin served as the CEO of Carlyle Group, a private equity firm, and has, now, become the first Republican elected to office in Virginia since 2009.
