Russia won't join the Arms Trade Treaty - official

Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Office in Geneva Andrey Belousov (pictured) stated that the country doesn't plan to join the organization's Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in its current format, Baku Tribune reports citing Breaking News. Belousov asserted that the countries that are a part of the treaty failed to achieve any "breakthrough results," saying that the standards set in the treaty are far from those that are currently implemented in the country. Moreover, he noted that the Treaty leaves room for an "ambiguous and unfair interpretation of the provisions." On the other hand, Belousov said that Russia will be watching the implementation of the ATT by its signatories, adding that the country "looks forward to the creation of appropriate national control systems for conventional arms transfers."
