The State Department issued a statement after a meeting between US Deputy Special Representative for North Korea Jung Pak, and her South Korean counterpart, Rim Kap-soo. The two diplomats discussed the potential for talks with Pyongyang, as well as "prospects for humanitarian cooperation," the statement explained.
South Korea's National Intelligence Service previously came out with an optimistic assessment regarding North Korea's readiness to take part in talks aimed at officially ending the Korean War.
