Baku Tribune presents an interview with a student of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) Zhang Ming.
- Tell us a little about yourself. How did it happen that you ended up in Azerbaijan?
- My name is Zhang Ming, I am from China, and I am currently studying at Azerbaijan State of Oil and Industry University, my major is economics and management. I came to Azerbaijan for the first time in October 2019. After graduating from high school, my teacher recommended me to study here.
- Why Azerbaijan University? What attracted you to the Azerbaijan State of Oil and Industry University?
- To be honest, before coming here, I didn't know much about this country, and even rarely heard of it. The reason for choosing here is simple, learn the language and exercise yourself away from your parents
- How did you enter the university? Tell me about your experience.
- I applied to this century-old school through my teacher, and after a long wait, I got an invitation letter.
- Did you encounter any difficulties when applying to university as an international student? If so, please tell us a little more about it.
- In the process of applying for a foreign university, I did not encounter many difficulties, because with the help of my teacher, I applied for a passport, a visa, and a medical examination, and then entered the school smoothly
- What program are you in? What are your impressions of the program? Do you have a favorite subject, teacher?
- I really, really love every teacher I have met! I really love them, they are serious and responsible, take care of every student, get along with us very well, especially my preparatory Russian teacher, I really like Russian class. My favorite subjects are management and international business.
- Did you manage to make close friends, and who are they - Azerbaijanis, foreigners? Who do you get along with the most easily?
- I made a lot of friends here, first of all my classmates, they were very formal at first, but later they got familiar with me, and they helped me every time I was in trouble, and they were happy for me when I got good marks in exams. Then I met a lot of Chinese friends here, we will study together, cheer and encourage, they are very important people here.
- What do you do in your free time at the university? Do you belong to any student clubs? Tell me a little about it.
- My life is simple, I will go to the library on the weekend to study, then go for a walk in the park and come back to my dorm to cook myself a delicious dinner. Every day I also call my family on video to talk to them and share what's going on lately, and sometimes I dance to exercise.
- Tell us a little about Baku. What are the pros and cons you see for yourself? Was it easy to find housing, a part-time job, was the transport system convenient?
- I have experienced a lot in Baku, and I like it very much. The simple and warm people, the culture and customs different from China are very attractive to me. I am living in a dormitory at the University of Petroleum, but I have tried to rent an apartment, which is not easy for international students, and there are many landlords who do not want to rent short term or to foreigners. For language and academic reasons, we usually do not choose to work part-time. Transportation is easy and I usually choose to take a taxi because it's really cheaper than any other place I've been.
- Thank you very much for this interview! What would you like to say in conclusion to foreign students who want to get an education in Azerbaijan?
- I would like to say to the foreign students in Azerbaijan that I hope we can cherish the opportunity to study abroad now, and it is a wonderful memory in life to be able to study and live in another country. I hope you take care of yourself while taking care of your studies, and have a happy and enjoyable day!
