Baku Tribune presents an interview with Algerian student of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry (ASOIU) Hamza Nasser. - Please tell us about yourself. My name is Hamza Nasser. I am from Algeria. I am 24 years old and I am a student of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry Univerisity. Before studying in Azerbaijan, I completed my master's degree in occupational health and safety from Batna 2 University of Algiers in 2019-2021. - How did you enter the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry? - I applied for a scholarship for PhD in Azerbaijan in 2021. In May of the same year, I was contacted. Thus, I ended up in Azerbaijan. In November 2021, I defended my doctoral dissertation on the topic of radiation risk management during the disposal of formation waters. Even before my admission, I asked my Algerian teachers about ASOIU and received positive feedback from them about this university. After reading articles about ASOIU on the Internet, I realized that this is the right university for obtaining a Ph.D. - What are the differences in the system of higher education in Azerbaijan and Algeria? - The education system in Azerbaijan is the same as in Algeria, mainly in academic years for bachelor's and master's degrees. In Azerbaijan, students have 4 years for a bachelor's degree and 2-3 years for a master's degree, while in my country it takes 3 years for a bachelor's degree and 2 years for a master's degree. Both countries use a similar system of teaching, but there is a major difference. In Azerbaijan, almost all universities require a student to be trained in English, in Algeria there is practically no training and the language of instruction is French. Some universities in Azerbaijan have a modern material-technical base and laboratories, which I consider an excellent factor for raising the level of education. - What can you say about the benefits for studying foreigners at ASOIU? - The advantages of studying at ASOIU, from my point of view, are the good content of the educational process, thanks to highly qualified teachers. The university has laboratories supplied with modern equipment. In my opinion, ASOIU has one of the best technical literature libraries. In addition, there is a department for work with foreign students. In general, the students of my university are very friendly and responsive. - How is your learning process going? - As a graduate student, I spend most of my time in the laboratory of the Institute of Radiation Problems. All the equipment and resources needed for my experiments are here. In addition, I participate in many events outside of ASOIU. For example, I attend courses at the Baku Higher Oil School on environmental restoration, where I met students from other universities in Azerbaijan. I even play football with Azerbaijani and foreign students. Being in Azerbaijan, I managed to visit different cities of your country. I am impressed by your rich culture and history, as well as majestic nature, not to mention the hospitality of Azerbaijanis. Rolan Yusufov
